So I have taken quite the hiatus from the blog these last few months. This in general is a new venture for me and in turn I think it takes some revisions as you go along.
For me, I was burnt out. Between the blog, Instagram, Pinterest, etc…I just became overwhelmed with all that I felt like I “had to do” to succeed in the mom blogger world. I don’t know about you, but I follow many Instagram mom blogs and Influencers and I thought that I needed to follow their blueprint in order to succeed.
So in taking a step away I’ve been able to really look at what I want to accomplish with this blog. I want it to be my outlet not a chore. I want it to be a safe space for me to divulge what’s going on in my life. My ups and down. The good, bad, ugly, and just plain exciting!
So, with that said, this blog will be just that…a blog. A collection of writings where I can share with you all my life. My Instagram will be a place where you can see a real-time collection of that and my Pinterest will hold all that peaks my interest and that I want to share with you.
I look forward to starting this new chapter and I actually have a SURPRISE to share with you this week! So I hope you’ll stick around and join me on this journey!
After a wonderful morning playing in the snow, Maddilyn was looking in our pantry for a “snack” and while she couldn’t find whatever strange concoction she was trying to describe to me, she did say that she wanted to make Blueberry Muffins.
Now usually, we have a box of mix that we just whip together and pop in the oven. But we didn’t have any and with the roads icy it didn’t seem worth it to go to the store. So I popped onto Pinterest to find a recipe (because we had just gotten some frozen blueberries at Costco) so that we could attempt to make them without having to leave the house.
I clicked on the first pin that popped up and it was Eating on a Dime‘s Blueberry Muffin Recipe. It stated that it could be made in one bowl and we happened to have all the necessary ingredients. I was thrilled and Maddilyn was super excited.
Maddilyn has always been a great helper in the kitchen. From whipping up waffles and pancakes, to stirring noodles and checking on items in the oven, to even washing dishes…she is a natural in the kitchen. So whenever possible my husband and I try to include her and Amelia in the cooking.
I have to say, of the whole process these girls just couldn’t get enough of the blueberries. Their faces and hands were stained purple through a few washings and while they didn’t actually end up eating the coveted muffins, I thought they were delicious.
Recently, after seeing a Live hair tutorial on Facebook, I started following a few influencers who are brand ambassadors for L’ange Hair. Their hair tutorials were great and they raved about the products. I was intrigued but of course I speculated if the products were truly that great or just the hype of their obviously good marketing campaign.
So I looked into their company a little more. They have countless positive reviews on a lot of their products (though there are a few complaints, I was glad to see them because it meant that they had real people reviewing their products) and I reviewed the comments in the influencers I was following and people seemed to really enjoy the products they had received.
My only real drawback was the price tag. $20 + is a lot to spend on what I consider a small amount of product (though most reviewers stated that the product went a long ways). So I continued to mull it over and figured after the holidays I’d splurge on it to try it out.
A little backstory. Since having Amelia, 2.5 years ago, I feel like my hair just hasn’t been the same. It dries out easily and I get a lot of breakage on my ends. Now I do use a salon quality Shampoo and Conditioner that has never failed me before but it didn’t seem to be working on my post pregnancy hair. Now with two kids, I do admit that I probably don’t spend as much time on my hair maintenance as I once was but even after getting my hair cut it doesn’t seem long before it doesn’t feel fresh anymore.
In addition to my own hair concerns, Amelia has naturally curly/wavy/crazy hair. And while I absolutely love it, she doesn’t make it easy to care for. She fights anytime we have to do her hair and honestly if it isn’t freshly washed it can be a pain to style.
So between the two of us, I was looking for products that would help manage/protect our hair (Maddilyn has one of those heads of hair that just goes with the flow. You want it up, it looks great. You want it down, it flows down her back so gracefully. I’m quite jealous!). So when the L’ange brand ambassadors I had started following began advertising about L’ange’s $9.00 Hair Care sale I couldn’t pass up a chance to try their products at a discounted price.
I ended up ordering 4 products:Rival – Heat Sheild, Managé – Marula Oil Hydrating Mist, Sorbet -Botanical Smoothing Balm, and Grand Début – Root Booster. Now I have only been using these products for about a week now and I have to say I’m overall impressed.
My favorite product for me is the Rival – Heat Sheild. It has an amazing smell and I can honestly feel the difference between using it on my hair and when I didn’t. I know I should have been using a heat protectant on my hair but just hadn’t found one that I really liked recently. This itself was worth the order, in my opinion.
My favorite products for Amelia’s hair has been the combination of Sorbet – Botanical Smoothing Balm after she gets out of the bath and then maintaining her hair with Managé – Marula Oil Hydrating Mist. One, her hair has never smelled so good. Two, it has been so much more manageable than I could have imagined. Her curls look soft and bouncy. It’s less frizzy even after sleeping on it. While she still doesn’t like the look of a comb, I’m able to use my fingers to just pull her hair out of her face. It’s been so much easier to do her hair in the mornings!
I also have been using the Sorbet after I’ve gotten out of the shower and can already feel like my hair is feeling smoother. I’ve only used the Managé once on the ends of my hair and loved that it seemed to give it a little hydration boost on second day hair. I have used hair oil in the past and have never repurchased because I always felt like my hair got too oily with it. But with my hair feeling dried out and the lightness of the Managé spray I haven’t felt that oily sensation in mine or Amelia’s hair since using it.
The jury is still out on the Grand Début – Root Booster, I do feel like it gave my hair a little more volume than normal but I’m not sure that it is as great as I thought it would be. I’ve only used it a few times and will keep using it but I haven’t decided if it would be worth a repurchase. I may just not be using enough of it or working it into my roots enough, so I will keep you posted.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend L’ange hair products if you’re in the market for something new for your hair. My hair has never felt smoother and looks shinier. The products, also, all smell amazing so if that’s important to you, you won’t be disappointed.

So I am in no way a food blogger and didn’t have any plans of making this into a blog post when I made these delicious Pumpkin Cupcakes but there was some interest on Instagram so I figured I’d share!
PUMPKIN CUPCAKES WITH CINNAMON CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
I got the recipe from Lil Luna and while I would have normally followed the recipe to a T, I waited till the last minute to put this together and therefor went with pre-made frosting and added the cinnamon to it. (I used about 1 1/2 cans of pre-made frosting with about 1 1/2 teaspoons on cinnamon added).
These cupcakes came out absolutely delicious and moist. They were a quick recipe and would make a great last minute Thanksgiving dessert!
Wow, I can’t believe that my firstborn child is turning 4 years old today.
Cue all of the sad, crying emoji’s!
It just doesn’t even seem possible that this little girl of mine is already 4 years old. How has this time passed so quickly? Now I’m not usually very emotional at birthdays, every year so far I’ve been so excited for what the next year will bring,
but this year just seems different to me. I think because she has grown up so much this past year that it intimidates me a little to think of where she’ll be a year from now.
Don’t worry, I’ll pull my mommy emotions together! Just give me a minute!
Ok! I’m better now!
This little girl, who is not so little, has such a huge heart. Despite all the sassy-ness that comes at the age of three, at the end of the day she is such a caring spirit. She always takes it upon herself to sing to her sister when she’s upset (because her sister loves being sung to) and will give her a stuffed animal to cuddle with if she’s having a particularly hard time. She is constantly making us sweet concoctions in her play kitchen and always wants to help in the real one. She has recently become interesting in all things that mommy does around the house and wants to lend a hand. She also cares for her friends deeply, can’t wait to see them, and is sad when they have to go home. This now 4 year old girl is always ready with a hug and kiss at the drop of a hat and it’s one of the most wonderful feelings being loved by her!
As much as it might sadden me right now to think about my girl growing up, I honestly can’t wait to see what this next year will bring. She is already so smart and inquisitive, always wanting to know the Who, What, Where, When, and of course the Why’s of every topic. She already astounds me with how much information she has retained at this young age and can only hope that we can forever encourage her to explore and learn.
All in all, I’m looking forward to celebrating this beautiful girl today at her Dino’s & Donuts party….because she’s just that cool and can name more dinosaurs than I even knew existed!
We love you so much cutie! We hope your birthday is as magical and wonderful as you deserve!
I’ll post all about her party and the DIY decorations that I did to add those special touches! So be on the lookout!
In navigating this blogging world, one of the most important aspects is gaining new followers. Now social media really helps us to get out there and share our words with so many people but as a new blogger it can seem overwhelming to find new followers.
I have found that Pinterest is a great way to share our blog posts with those who are already interested in the topics we are writing about. I know I love following fellow mom bloggers (comment below with your Pinterest Page and I’ll Follow You!) and see how they are handling life with toddlers, figuring out family friendly meals, finding time for self care, how to keep our homes a resemblance of clean, and etc.
I truly believe in creating a community where we can support each other on our journey through motherhood, blogging, and everything in between. So in the spirit of sharing and collaboration I created a Pinterest Board Mama’s Write Life where you can pin your blog posts in a group of fellow mom bloggers. To join, fill out the form HERE and I’ll add you as a collaborator.
I’ve also compiled a list of other Mom Blogger Pinterest boards for you to join to continue to share your work. Also if you have your own Mom Blog Pinterest board you’d like to share, please feel free to comment below or DM on my Pinterest account, Amanda Writes : Life.
First and foremost, welcome to my blog. This is a huge first step for me. As a stay at home mom of my two wonderful girls, I’ve been looking for an outlet that can be just for me.
As Moms, our needs tend to be put on the back burner and I need a space for me! For awhile now I’ve tried to find my niche. I’ve tried crafting (but have decided that I enjoy buying craft supplies more…please tell me I’m not alone LOL) as well as a few other hobbies and while they each provided an outlet it wasn’t something that I would be interested in doing on a daily basis, more situational.
So here I am, blogging. Bearing my life and soul to strangers in hopes that they find me interesting enough to keep following. Yikes! To say I’m nervous would be an understatement but I’m also very excited. When I was younger, I always enjoyed writing….you know, those origami notes that you’d pass to your friends between classes…just kidding, but I did do that too! I seriously just enjoyed jotting down my thoughts and feelings and now I hope to continue that love here on Amanda Writes.
So bear with me as I get settled here. I’m hoping that as I get established here we’ll find our groove and hit it off!
In the meantime, drop a Hello! Let me know something interesting about you!
